This time last year I was travelling from Cairns to Melbourne. It seems like only yesterday whilst also seeming like a very long time ago. We're hurtling towards Christmas and 2012, which will be an awesomely fun year, and hopefully life will stop beating me with metapohorical hockeysticks and cricket bats for long enough for me to sit down and think about what I'm going to do with it.

Anyway.

[livejournal.com profile] laligin and I are going over to Halifax tomorrow to sing in/watch Messiah with my family, but not before we see the Coca Cola lorry! Nothing makes me happier than the Cola Christmas advert, you have no idea. But we get to see the lorry tomorrow and I will glee over it and buy gloves. Definitely buying gloves, if my glove stall is there.

I went madly shopping yesterday and bought 3kg of chocolate for turning into Christmas presents. Have to do those, or at least some of them, before my cousin comes up on Friday and I have to give her their presents. Told you life was beating me up. I should tidy the house too, but meh.

The writing is interesting, as in 'oh god, oh god, we're going to die'. I finished reel_TW, polished my Ianto Big Bang, finished off my first card for longliveIanto bingo, finished my journeystory, and have plotted out my next bingo card. Space opera on an interstellar cruiseliner. Space opera. Interstellar cruise liner. Squee.

Lots of things to post, anyway, and hopefully a bit less stress.

Apart from my dissertation. Yeah... that thing. I have a presentation on that on Friday. Joy

Life's normal, essentially. I probably owe people things, but I have no clue what they are. If I owe you something please tell me so, and I will get on it.

Okay, so it's posting day for my Torchwood Big Bang today. Unfortunately, I have a slight problem - it's not been beta'd. I was forgotten about *sniff* (to be honest, I've done it to her too. This is why I never volunteer as a beta any more). I'm prepared to make use of the amnesty period, but if anyone has nothing better to do today and could beta a 24,000 word fic in the next 14 hours, I would explode with squee and gratitude. Obviously, as it's so last minute it's just spelling and grammar (unless there's something which really doesn't make sense, in which case... bollocks). If you could beta it by the amnesty day but not by the end of today, that is also supercool and awesome.

Meanwhile, I'm going to flail a bit (a lot) and finish my next Big Bang. And then actually do some uni work. Shocking, I know. Expect fic from me sometime this week, whatever happens.

ETA: Thanks to Saria, Caladria and Lucy for coming to my rescue. You're all stars.

Apologies for absence:
I've gone missing, I know, I'm sorry. I am currently working on another Big Bang. Yes, you heard that right. My Torchwood Big Bang is with my betas, my Ianto Big Bang is... getting there. It's sufficiently finished to be a first draft, but not sufficiently finished for public consumption, posting starts soon, and hopefully I'll clear enough space in my schedule to be able to write some more Timelord!Ianto and get started on another bingo. Hopefully.

Anyway, there is stuff on its way.

Beta request:
Would anyone be prepared to beta two big bangs for me? They're both in Google Docs, and I have the fantastic [livejournal.com profile] ablatedcrayon looking over it for me, but I could also do with a Torchwood beta to tell me just how bad my characterisation is. It won't be that bad, I'm sure...

My google account is Galadriel1010, I'm on Google+ as well and would use Google chat if anyone ever wanted to talk to me, so even if you don't want to beta you can add me over there if that's your communication of choice.

And if you would like to beta it but don't want to beta it on Google I can always give you a Word Document or an OpenOffice file or something. Semaphore, smoke signals... although those could take a while.

I am a lover of Groupon, and of afternoon tea. Some offers I found this morning that might be of interest to people are:

Afternoon tea for 2 or 4 in York. £5 for two, £9 for four. I can't report on the venue, but I can report on the price, because that's seriously good.

For those going to Cardiff at any point, there's an offer for cream tea with champagne for two in the Bay area for £10.40

Or if you're flush and wanting to get away from it all, a seven night stay in a five star hotel in Tunisia, flights included, will set you back £350 per person. £12 per day to updrade to fully catered. Warning, revolution occurring.

In the West Midlands, you can go zorbing with a friend for £19.

So, I had a fantastic weekend at Towersey, which requires a full and frank writeup, but that is not giong to happen because omg the madness. I am still trying to catch up on my big bang, which is progressing but not fast enough, and realised that a large part of it is in the wrong damn tense. But hey ho.

This is a drive by post to say 'hi, I'm alive!' and that I'm coming to London next week. My mum and I are there from the 13th to the 16th, and I would love to have a get together at Pizza Hut or somewhere similar. (I like Hut, it has awesome memories for me already, and more are always better).

Bearing in mind that we're also seeing a family friend and some of my mum's friends, so I might not have a coice anyway, I made a poll.
[Poll #1775028]

I'm totally not hyper with tiredness. Why would you think that?

I'm having an amazing time here. The weather has been awesome but the sun has come out at last and I'm lookibg forwards to a night of chilled and less chilled folk music tonight and starting tomorrow with a storytelling workshop.

'Miracle Gay'. Not big and not clever. More immature and damaging, actually. If I thought it were a comment on how over the top the gay jokes are and the fact that it comes across as vaguely homophobic, then maybe. But I really don't get that feeling, I think it's more of the 'it's so gay' that's hurting young LGBT people so badly.

Here's the last one

30 – Do you have a favorite fic you've written? What makes it your favorite? And don't forget to give us a link!

I have two favourites, actually )

That's all, folks :)

I have been working on sorting out my masterlists for some time now, and I've finally got my non-fiction masterlist finished and posted. It's available here. Some entries on it will be going under a friends lock this week, particularly the mental health ones and the ones where I complain about my family, but my travel diaries, stuff about writing and memes won't be flocked.
galadriel1010: (Default)
Listed here are all my non-fiction entries. Some will be listed in more than one section (mostly memes).

This list contains a lot of personal entries that are going to be flocked in the coming weeks as I get my journal organised, and a lot of out of date stuff. To-do lists are have-done lists, entries about my mental wellbeing are no longer relevant, etc.

29 – What is your current project or projects?

Two main projects )
galadriel1010: (Default)
28 – Have you ever collaborated with anyone else, whether writing together, or having an artist work on a piece about your fic?

I collaborated on my Sherlock/Torchwood crossover with the big bang artists, and I also share one of my universes with Lizzy.

In more important news, my capital city is burning for the third night running, it's getting ever closer to my friends and there is fuck all I can do about it. This has been brewing a long time, but not because of race or taxes or anything like that, but because we have let society rot.

29 – What is your current project or projects?
galadriel1010: (Default)
27 – Where is your favorite place to write, and do you write by hand or on the computer?

All the above )
galadriel1010: (Default)
26 – What is the oddest (or funnest) thing you've had to research for a fic?

Sex, injuries and luxury hotels )
galadriel1010: (Default)
25 – Music – Do you listen to music while you write? Do you make playlists to get into a certain "mood" to write your fic? Do you need noise in general? Or do you need it completely quiet?

Wiiide variety )
galadriel1010: (Default)
24 - Betaing – How many betas do you like to use to make sure there aren't any major flaws in your fic? Do you have a Beta horror story or dream story?

I only use a beta if the challenge requires it )

For those wanting to know more about the recent DDoS attacks, yes, it looks like it was the Russian government trying to shut down the dissidents again.

As I said last time, while it's frustrating not to have access, LJ is a lot more than a social network platform. From the article:

"LiveJournal isn’t just a social network. It’s also a platform for organizing civic action. Dozens of network projects and groups mobilize people to solve specific problems — from defending the rights of political prisoners to saving endangered historic architecture in Moscow."

So while I know many are considering the move over to Dreamwidth and other such sites, supporting LJ is a way we can help support those who use it for more than a writing/roleplaying/social venue.

Also, as a FYI, LJ is giving paid users effected by the outage two weeks of paid time as compensation.

A bit of perspective for all of us

23 – When you post, where do you post to? Just your journal? Just an archive? Your own personal site?

I am archived in three places that I can remember )
galadriel1010: (Default)
22 – Have you ever participated in a fest or a Big Bang? If so, write about your favorite experience in relation to one. If not, are there any you've thought about doing? And if not, why not?

Yes I have )
