For a long while now, I've been planning to write up something about my planning process, because I am a definite planner and my process is long and convoluted and multicoloured and multimedia and, most importantly, works really well for me.

I've looked at processes like Snowflake and SaveTheCat and others, and even started designing my own method based on the PRINCE2 project management principals, but I keep rolling back to the same system that I've been using more or less consistently for years. Once upon a time, back in the mists of the noughties, I was a bit of a pantser. I'd have a concept and a goal in mind, but not an outline or any idea of how to get from start to finish. What I also had was a lot more time and, honestly, low standards for my writing. I can't look back on my stuff from that period with anything other than pride that I've come so far. There's a 200000 word fanfiction in my back catalogue that will, one day, with a lot of rewriting, be a decent 50k novel. It is not decent right now, because I only worked out where I was going with it a fair way into it, and stuffed it with far too much story. And, regardless of the quality, it took me 10 years to finish because I stopped loving it. That was time I could have spent working on things I did enjoy but no, I gave it to that pile of nonsense.

So in the aim of never doing that again, I have developed a system that works for me and produces works I do not hate. This is, however, my first attempt to codify it. Wish me luck.

What do you mean it's literally the middle of February? Shhh...

Anyway. January was a productive month for writing. I set myself a target of 13000 to ease myself into the year and ended up writing 25774 over 7 projects. Two personal projects, lots of exchange fic (several of which are still to be revealed).

One personal project was just outlining. I did nearly 2k words on planning for a fic pairing Harry Watson with Greg Lestrade's wife, but I'm contemplating scrubbing it from the start and doing it as an original lesbian romance. The Sherlock connection is pretty much just that they met at Baker Street anyway. Watch this space, I guess.

I finished off Nine Lessons and Carol, which is one of my favourite stories I've ever written. It's just shy of 50k, polyam friends-to-lovers about Mycroft Holmes and Greg and Carol Lestrade. E rated for one scene, but mostly just impossibly fluffy and sweet imo.

How We Say It Here is another polyam fic, this time a Doctor Who story for Thirteen/Yaz/Christina de Souza. Adventure and love confessions and confusions between love languages. I'd love to write more for this ship and may do so. Exchange gift for Holly_Poly for ShopFront.

Everything else is for Chocolate Box or other exchanges, so aren't revealed until this month.

In the midst of all the chaos, which really is A Lot to deal with and needs its own post, the one bright point is that I'm working from home, and it's been amazing. My commute was an hour and a half each way before, and required me to be p before 7 every morning. It's no surprise really that I haven't written in years. Now, though, I'm seizing my chance and I've started writing again. I've signed up for [community profile] nowriteway to try and bring people together. If you'd like to join us, that would be lovely <3

Okay, so it's posting day for my Torchwood Big Bang today. Unfortunately, I have a slight problem - it's not been beta'd. I was forgotten about *sniff* (to be honest, I've done it to her too. This is why I never volunteer as a beta any more). I'm prepared to make use of the amnesty period, but if anyone has nothing better to do today and could beta a 24,000 word fic in the next 14 hours, I would explode with squee and gratitude. Obviously, as it's so last minute it's just spelling and grammar (unless there's something which really doesn't make sense, in which case... bollocks). If you could beta it by the amnesty day but not by the end of today, that is also supercool and awesome.

Meanwhile, I'm going to flail a bit (a lot) and finish my next Big Bang. And then actually do some uni work. Shocking, I know. Expect fic from me sometime this week, whatever happens.

ETA: Thanks to Saria, Caladria and Lucy for coming to my rescue. You're all stars.

Apologies for absence:
I've gone missing, I know, I'm sorry. I am currently working on another Big Bang. Yes, you heard that right. My Torchwood Big Bang is with my betas, my Ianto Big Bang is... getting there. It's sufficiently finished to be a first draft, but not sufficiently finished for public consumption, posting starts soon, and hopefully I'll clear enough space in my schedule to be able to write some more Timelord!Ianto and get started on another bingo. Hopefully.

Anyway, there is stuff on its way.

Beta request:
Would anyone be prepared to beta two big bangs for me? They're both in Google Docs, and I have the fantastic [livejournal.com profile] ablatedcrayon looking over it for me, but I could also do with a Torchwood beta to tell me just how bad my characterisation is. It won't be that bad, I'm sure...

My google account is Galadriel1010, I'm on Google+ as well and would use Google chat if anyone ever wanted to talk to me, so even if you don't want to beta you can add me over there if that's your communication of choice.

And if you would like to beta it but don't want to beta it on Google I can always give you a Word Document or an OpenOffice file or something. Semaphore, smoke signals... although those could take a while.

One of the projects I have been working on lately is a Big Bang story which crosses Sherlock with Torchwood. I'm really excited about this story, especially as I have been claimed by not one but three awesome artists.

When a well-respected and important member of Cardiff's alien population is found dead, Torchwood have to call in discrete help to solve the case. It's fortunate that Ianto Jones shared a flat, for a while, with London's top consulting detective.

And that's all you're getting for now. Murhar.

There's a meme going around where you sum up the WIPs saved on your computer, but I can't do that because I don't work like that. I finish a chapter or short story and I post it, so no fragments sitting around. Any fragments I do have are scraps of conversations or descriptions that don't actually fit into a wider story yet.

What I do have are a couple of ongoing stories that I'm in the middle of writing and posting.

First of all, I'm messing around with google docs (because I have loved it in the past, but don't have many google friends to play with it with :( I've uploaded my monster fic, which is just over 100k and unfinished in three parts, just to see if I could, and if I could edit it from my Blackberry. I can't.

So if you're really, really bored, my sandcastle is there to be trashed. I started writing it nearly two years ago when I was 18, so it needs some serious editing and possibly a total rewrite before I launch it on livejournal.

It also needs finishing, which brings me to...

Today is a day for Just A Mistake updating, and I'm still trying to figure out a way to post it all up here that isn't hideously antisocial (it's now 45 chapters long). So you get a rant about my worries about writing instead. Most of this is irrelevance and just me wanting to get it down on 'paper'. The rest is me not wanting to have an empty square on my calendarr.

Rambling and weird )

It is, of course, the month before [Poll #1629034]

And, if you have a lot to choose from, what's your favourite?

Of the ten I've not touched, I can't decide if my favourite is the one about Kathy Swanston borrowing Jack to punish him and Ianto watching, or the idea of Steven Carter and David Davies as 9-year-old boyfriends going 'but girls are yucky, why would I want to kiss a girl?', or the one about Jack investing in real estate.
galadriel1010: (Puss)
Tl;dr: ) Another cry for help, I'm looking for advice on what I'm doing wrong in my writing, or even what I'm doing right so that I can improve it, make more people happy, make fewer people cross and generally be less fail.
galadriel1010: (Puss)
I bring gifts! I've signed up for two Bingos, Kiss bingo and Schmoop bingo, and I feel like doing some gift fics. So I give them to you. Claim a prompt, give me details if you want to give them, and I'll write it for you and put it up sometime in the next couple of months, depending on how many I get. Priority will be given to anyone who comments on my original fiction brainstorming post here. (You call it bribery, I call it payment for services rendered =] )

If I've turned off anonymous posting and you've not got an account, you can Facebook me, Twitter me, Fanfiction.net me or email me at Galadriel1010 at hotmail dot co dot UK.

ETA: You can claim one prompt from each list to be made into one story, if you like.

Prompts under the cut )
galadriel1010: (Puss)
Heya guys. These are all untitled, vaguely sketched out ideas for original fictions, and I'd love to hear what you think of them. My main questions are:
1)Do you like the idea?
2)What would you most like from a story of this kind?
3)If you know my writing style, do you think I could write this?
4)If you know my writing style, what do you think are going to be the biggest challenges of it for me?
5)What do you think that the biggest challenges of this story are going to be in general?

If you give me feedback, I'll write you a pretty story? Prompts for claiming here (There's 48 of them).
Seriously though, if you'll help me out here, I'll love you forever. Who knows, you might get to see some of these in bookshops or (fingers crossed!) on TV one day.
