9 – Pairings – For each of the fandoms from day two, what are your three favorite pairings to write?
I don't tend to write pairing fic. Now, I know you're going to point at the huge mass of Jack/Ianto stuff I've written and laugh, but they're the exception rather than the rule. For some reason I can write Jack/Ianto domestic relationship stuff until the sun explodes, but I don't do ship writing in other fandoms. Okay, so I shipped Greg and Nick in a casefic crossover with CSI, and Jacob/Jack when that crossed over with Jack Saturday Can't Fail, but I have never been inspired to write anyone else in a relationship since I was about 18. And I was 18 when I was writing Greg/Nick and Jack/Jacob.
So as I have so few pairings, my favourite pairing overall has to be the only one I'm interested in writing at all - Jack and Ianto. They're messed up and have come through so much to get to where they are, and I genuinely believe that Ianto is the only person who has seen so much of Jack and loved him anyway. He doesn't see the hearts and flowers sparkly version of him - it would be impossible after Jack has held a gun to his head - he sees Jack as a very damaged, very lonely man who grew up too fast too long ago and desperately needs someone to care for him. Ianto is not going to be the one to stop Jack going over the edge, because he's going to be right there next to him - but that in itself will hold Jack back. Because he sees Ianto too.
I identify a lot with Jack, and, perhaps because of that, I love Ianto desperately. He's not perfect, and neither is Jack. But their jagged edges fit together to make something that nearly is.
10 – Pairings – Have you ever gone outside your comfort zone and written a pairing you liked, but found you couldn't write, or a pairing you didn't like, and found you could?
