Looking for a new game

I'm looking for a new game to play in which there is a sufficiently interesting crafting element. Details of what I'm looking for are hidden behind

I used to be a big Runescape fan, but I've lost my account since then (passwords and email addresses lost in the mists of time). I wasn't keen on the fighting part of it, but I did love wandering around the world collecting stuff and crafting it. I could go back to Runescape, but it would be annoying to build up a character when I've already done it once.

So I'm looking for a similar game, where crafting is more involved than it is on Farmville. You know, you go to the mine and mine gold, you keep going until you happen to get a ruby, you take the gold to a furnace and smelt it into a bar, you cut the ruby, you go back to the furnace and smelt the gold with the ruby into a ruby ring, you find the shop that will give you the best price. I likes Runescape because there was a range of crafting things to do - I did armour, cooking and jewellery mainly, but there was leatherworking and other things as well.

So if anyone can point me to a decent game like this, preferably free but definitely not subscription (I'll get it if you tell me there's a Sims-like game, but I don't play regularly enough for subscription games to make sense), I will love you forever.
