If there'd been an Internet when I was a teen, my life would have been ruined.
I was lucky that I didn't get my first access until 1988, only to the Bitnet at that. And, back then, we really did stop and think a bit before we posted certain things. In other areas, we were insanely naive... see my ID? That's my real last name and initials. But that ID has been online since 1988, so there's such a trail associated with it now, it's pointless to stop using it.
