Getting to know you meme

Purloined from too many people to mention. If I've not done yours, let me know and I'll do it! Although I'm already running out of things to say...

I know very little about some of the people on my friends list. Some people I know relatively well. But here's a thought: why not take this opportunity to tell me a little something about yourself. Any old thing at all. Just so the next time I see your name I can say: "Ah, there's so and so...she likes office supplies." I'd love it if every single person who friended me would do this. (Yes, even you people who I know really well. Then post this in your own journal. In return, ask me anything you'd like to know about me and I'll give you an answer.)

I was born with extra fingers...

What was your favourite childhood toy?

[identity profile] fiwen1010.livejournal.com 2010-12-10 07:32 am (UTC)(link)
I had a teddy bear called Branwell Brown, which was bought for me before I was born.

I'm allergic to mangoes. The fruit, the skin, the trees. I get hives.

What is the prettiest place you've ever been?

[identity profile] fiwen1010.livejournal.com 2010-12-10 07:40 am (UTC)(link)
I think it's probably Lake Eachim in the Atherton Tablelands, although that's possibly just because it was recent and warm and I was swimming with fish. York is very pretty, though, and I am very glad I live there.

I once fell off a ski lift, although it wasn't as dramatic as it sounds.

Have you ever found something you'd written but didn't remember writing?

[identity profile] fiwen1010.livejournal.com 2010-12-10 07:44 am (UTC)(link)
Eeep! Where was the ski lift?

There's some stuff from a few years back that I don't remember, and I actually managed to read a Torchwood fanfiction and not realise that it was one of mine.

I was born without a uterus because of MRKH syndrome.

What is your favourite book?

[identity profile] fiwen1010.livejournal.com 2010-12-10 07:55 am (UTC)(link)
The Lord of the Rings will always win.

I grew up speaking Spanish at home. We listened to Spanish language radio, watched Spanish language TV. My parents had no idea that I could speak English until I started pre-school. I ended up going to a regular class for most of the day and an ESL class for the last part of the day.

The kids in the ESL class were much cooler. I got teased a lot in my regular class because I was quiet and nerdy.

Since I love the book High Fidelity, I'm gonna have to ask:

What are your top five favorite movies?

[identity profile] fiwen1010.livejournal.com 2010-12-10 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I wish I could still speak Spanish. It's such a cool language.

Top five movies:
The Lord of the Rings trilogy
Pirates of the Carribbean
Sister Act 2
Bring It On
The Lion King

I make textile art. My current project is a four-foot-long fleece squid for my niece's Christmas present.

[identity profile] phyrbyrd.livejournal.com 2010-12-10 08:17 am (UTC)(link)
Oop! forgot the question.
What's the biggest project you've ever worked on?
(also, where do I know you from anyway?)

[identity profile] fiwen1010.livejournal.com 2010-12-10 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Probably either my shared-verse Torchwood fanfiction, or the currently 45 chapter one. They're not massive, btu they are for me

I think we met through riverside_HQ? And lived down the road from each other when I was still in Calderdale, possibly...

[identity profile] phyrbyrd.livejournal.com 2010-12-10 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, right, you're THAT Rachel, OK. I seem to have aquired many Rachels in my life...

[identity profile] fiwen1010.livejournal.com 2010-12-11 07:23 am (UTC)(link)
Lol, I'm the same with Jennys. We should do dinner when I get home.

[identity profile] ms-bekahrose.livejournal.com 2010-12-10 08:46 am (UTC)(link)
I can tap dance. Quite good at it too, and miss it terribly. Haven't been to a proper class in about five years.

Where's your favourite spot to hang out in Melbourne?

[identity profile] fiwen1010.livejournal.com 2010-12-10 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Cool! I'm so uncoordinated it's untrue.

I actually love just sitting on the route 57 tram, or mooching around the Queen Victoria Market.

I'm a Kiwi who hasn't lived at home for almost 20 years and also an American who also hasn't lived there, now for almost two. We move - a lot.

What do you do to relax?

[identity profile] fiwen1010.livejournal.com 2010-12-10 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow. Can I ask where you're living now?

I write fluffy domesticated Jack/Ianto stories, or just curl up in bed. When I'm at home I play Sims as well, but I've not got it with me here.

[identity profile] usakiwigirl.livejournal.com 2010-12-11 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
I'm currently in Melbourne, Hampton to be exact. I'm getting ready to leave though, in January, for the US and then at the end of next year will be in Uzbekistan. Told you I move - a lot!

I like fluffy stuff - but not too sweet, cuz I can't handle the toothache, LOL. Curling up in bed is definitely top of the list, but with two teens, or one teen and an almost teen, it's a little hard to do :/

[identity profile] fiwen1010.livejournal.com 2010-12-11 07:25 am (UTC)(link)
Cool! Would you have time to meet up for drinks over Christmas? I'm there for a fortnight in North Melbourne.

[identity profile] usakiwigirl.livejournal.com 2010-12-11 07:55 am (UTC)(link)
Would love to do something! *checks calendar* Might have to be during the day though, nights are a bit tight around here. You okay with lunch-type things?

[identity profile] fiwen1010.livejournal.com 2010-12-11 09:22 am (UTC)(link)
I am always up for lunch things :D I get back there next Friday
ext_550863: (Default)

[identity profile] usakiwigirl.livejournal.com 2010-12-11 09:26 am (UTC)(link)
Right. Well, I can probably do either that Friday, if you are actually here, or the following Monday, Tuesday or possibly Wednesday. After that, the whole thing goes to hell!

I'll pm you my details!

[identity profile] madcolt.livejournal.com 2012-02-19 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
I am over a year late to this party and I have six siblings. Have you got any?

[identity profile] fiwen1010.livejournal.com 2012-02-19 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
There is not late to this party. My parties go on for ever, and the cake is not a lie!

Six siblings is a lot. I do have one, and I struggle to cope with that (but he does have a lot of instruments to make up for his lack of numbers). Are your siblings older or younger?

[identity profile] madcolt.livejournal.com 2012-02-19 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
I have four older (two boys, two girls) and two younger (a girl and a boy). A technicality: the youngest, a boy, is actually my cousin, but he lived with us on and off for the first two years of his life, then moved in and we adopted him when he was about four.

What instruments does he play?

[identity profile] fiwen1010.livejournal.com 2012-02-19 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
My mind is torn between "that's really even distribution" and "that must have been a busy breakfast table". My mind works in curious ways.

He plays piano, clarinet, penny whistle (and tends to wander around with half a dozen in his pockets), harmonica, accordion, hammered dulcima and melodeon - of which he has two, one of which is the only melodic minor tuned melodeon we've ever heard of, because he's weird.

[identity profile] madcolt.livejournal.com 2012-02-19 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
Your brother sounds like a bit of a prodigy!

And yes, it did go almost perfectly boy-girl, till my younger sister came along and messed up the pattern. ;)
And a busy breakfast table it was. It was a bit like fighting for your life, only your life was a piece of toast.

[identity profile] fiwen1010.livejournal.com 2012-02-19 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
He is pretty damn good. He also morris dances pretty well.

Never seemed to have any concept of appropriate times for loud instruments, though.

Sisters, they always have to mess things up :P

[identity profile] madcolt.livejournal.com 2012-02-19 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, they do. *has totally never been the silly baby sister screwing things up*
*nope*
*totally did not accidentally cockblock older brother when I was five or so*
*and certainly didn't do this semi-regularly*

:P

[identity profile] fiwen1010.livejournal.com 2012-02-19 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
I was the big sister. My love life (or lack thereof) was a source of frequent amusement, until he got his first girlfriend and a taste of his own medicine.

[identity profile] madcolt.livejournal.com 2012-02-19 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
I wasn't used to the idea that I couldn't just go bursting into the boys' room whenever I felt like it...

[identity profile] fiwen1010.livejournal.com 2012-02-19 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
My brother has yet to learn that. He gets things thrown at him occasionally.

[identity profile] madcolt.livejournal.com 2012-02-19 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, Jesus, I shared a bedroom with my younger sister and she (a) has never had any understanding of boundaries, and (b) brought a LOT of boys home and always forgot to leave me any kind of warning. It got awkward.

[identity profile] fiwen1010.livejournal.com 2012-02-19 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that would get awkward. Rick and I never really dated (but, of course, one of my two ex-boyfriends has more awkwardness in the fallout than was caused by me coming out as gay. Because life is just like that)

[identity profile] madcolt.livejournal.com 2012-02-19 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
Working theory: I am 90% sure my sister turns boys gay by sleeping with them. I mean, once is happenstance, twice is coincidence, three times and it's enemy action.
The enemy here apparently being heterosexuality.
I don't know I wouldn't really trust anything I say I haven't slept properly (or at all?) since Wednesday.

[identity profile] fiwen1010.livejournal.com 2012-02-19 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
Lol! Yeah, your sister has skills.

Really sorry to hear about the lack of sleep :( I hope your kid gets better soon and you get some sleep

[identity profile] madcolt.livejournal.com 2012-02-19 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
Aw, thanks! Yeah, little bugger just needs so R&R, some TLC, some other acronym I can't think of, and some Pedialyte. :P

I told my husband to make the baby wave at the computer and he said I was pigeon-holing the child. Well, he's waving in spirit, I'm sure.

[identity profile] fiwen1010.livejournal.com 2012-02-19 10:42 am (UTC)(link)
Acronyms fix everything.

*Waves at you and the baby, and the husband*
