Mad Trip Day 11: Bryon Bay to Surf Camp

Dawn was overcast and witnessed from my hostel bed. Despite getting to bed at ten, I didn't actually manage to sleep, because the drunk Schoolies who couldn't spend the night in bars and clubs decided to spend it outside my dorm, drinking and talking at full volume. Once they stopped I could hear the snoring properly. My alarm went off at four, I looked at the weather (miserable) and decided to try for two and a half hours of sleep. This failed as well.
When I got up and started packing my stuff up, still fully dressed because I was planning on getting up so fast, I discovered that every other person in the eight bed dorm was male. They looked as surprised as I was, the ones who were awake. I got out quickly, leaving my phone behind by accident, and checked out, then went back for my phone and collected my Mad card from the desk. The internet still wasn't working, but I got some more charge into my laptop before I had to hurry up the road to meet the bus.
After a bit of gentle Disco ribbing, and collecting a late-comer, we got on the road and I plugged my laptop in to the sound system to annoy people with my awesome music. I'd chosen a 40 track playlist of mixed folk, rock and cheese. At our first breakfast stop, an hour later, Katie said that it was annoying her, so I left it and listened to it on my headphones instead.
We went straight down to Spot X from there, past a number of kangaroos and wallabies. As soon as we got there we were shown around, dropped our stuff in our rooms and then got changed into swimsuits and went for our surf lesson.
Surfing does not suit me. It suits me less well than pink and blue sun-protection paint. I got my mouth, ears, eyes and nose full of water, spent very little time upright – and all of that was whilst walking into the water and trying to find a wave to ride. Amusing, but annoying, and not something I want to do again.
We got dried off and dressed and then did a run to a bottle shop. Whilst waiting, I discovered that I couldn't get on the internet again. Global Gossip seems to be having problems all the way down the East coast. At the bottle shop I bought a bottle of Monteith's crushed pear cider and a very large bottle of Cola.
Dinner was good, but nothing special, and after dinner the bus crew settled down for drinking games. I got a few photos of the beach and the creek, but couldn't get onto the beach to take any more or investigate the strange sand formations because the tide had risen, and I didn't really want to be stuck on the beach overnight. Got a photo with Disco, then went back to watch the drinking game and drink my cider whilst I thought about bed.
