Mad Trip Day 5: Airlie Beach to Kroombit

Got up at 5 in Airlie Beach to use the free internet, only to find that I couldn't get into the room where I'd planned to charge my laptop and log on to the wifi. Bad planning there. I went outside to watch the sea for a while and plan, and then remembered that I could get into the kitchen and plug my laptop in there. Did that and discovered that the internet still wasn't working, for some reason. Ended up writing a bit, but not enough, whilst I watched a guy's bags for him. He'd been sleeping in the kitchen.
Headed out from there to catch the bus and got a front seat on the minibus they'd sent. Lots of complaining about the size of the bus.
Really, really long drive, with only a couple of brief stops to buy lunch and play lawn bowls. Flacker had his usual singer-songwriter stuff on, so loud that it drowned out all conversation. When we were getting to Kroombit he put on some country and western stuff to get us in the mood.
The evening at Kroombit was awesome. We had a lovely roast beef dinner, then learned to crack a bullwhip and rode a mechanical bull. I got thrown immediately, which was even more embarrassing as I'd had real problems getting on it in the first place and had to be helped up.
I got chatting to a few people there, including the lad whose bags I watched in the morning, and the two Irish girls I was sharing a room with. And I got bitten by the nearly tame cockatoo, because I did something to offend it. No, I have no idea what.

Glad you're still having a great time - despite the cranky cockatoo - getting bitten by any sort of parrot or parakeet is excruciating! Budgies, Cockatiels, even a Love Bird (nowhere near as lovable as they look) have had a go at me! Nothing the size of a Cockatoo though - ouch!
