There will probably be many of these. This one ganked from
notalwaysweak.
1. What did you do in 2011 that you'd never done before?
I did big bangs, but most of the stuff I've done this year has been repeats. Comfort in the familiar.
2. Did you keep your New Year's goals/resolutions?
Lol, no. Really no. My resolutions were to lose weight, finish JAM, budget properly and finish an original novel. I have done none of these things.
3. What was your favourite moment of the year?
Tricky one, Ashwood. Probably the six or so hours I spent in a pub garden with
laligin during the Indian Summer and the funfare trip we washed it down with. Just based on the fact that it was warm and there were kittens and ice cream and Lali, it takes some beating.
4. What was your least favourite moment of the year?
Somewhere at the start of the year when I was bunged up with cold and it was freezing out and I just wanted to go back to Australia or hibernate.
5. What countries or states did you visit?
Started the year in Sydney, then spent a couple of days in New York. Haven't left the UK since, but I have visited Cardiff a few times, Birmingham once, London a couple of times.
6. What would you like to have in 2012 that you lacked in 2011?
More free time. I'm enjoying univeristy, but I will be glad when it's over for a while. A job in tourism would be nice as well, a finished novel, Lali living with me (that's pretty high on the list. Top, actually). A sofabed that one can both sit on and sleep on, rather than neither.
7. What date(s) from 2011 will remain etched upon your memory and why?
1st October. The day Lali and I shyly admitted that our friends were shipping us and that we wouldn't mind them being right.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Not going insane (or more insane than I am). It has been pretty tough going at times.
9. What was your biggest failure?
I've generally failed to get the marks I should have at uni. And put on a lot of weight and spent too much and not written all the things I wanted to and... the usual.
10. What were the best things you bought/were bought for you?
I was given a Wii for my birthday, which I've not had a chance to use yet, and have started buying myself recipe books again.
11. What did you pine for, but never get?
A kitten. Fortunate, in retrospect.
12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
All my awesome people on MSN. My chatgroup remains epically fun and slightly demented.
13. Whose behaviour made you appalled or depressed?
My brother's constant inability to organise himself, let alone a piss-up in a brewery, is a source of great angst.
14. Where did most of your money go?
I have no clue. Travel, maybe? Eating out? Stuff and things? Or maybe just bills.
15. What did you get really excited about?
Hobbit Hobbit Hobbit. And Sherlock! And going back to Australia! And silicone bakeware! And fanfiction! And kittens!
16. What songs will always remind you of 2011?
Probably Oysterband songs that I saw them do live at Towersey. Same with Blackbeard's Tea Party.
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
I. Happier or sadder? Happies
II. Thinner or fatter? Fatter
III. Richer or poorer? Richer
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Writering. I've been sinking into 'staring blankly at the screen' a lot more this year.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Staring blankly at the screen. That seems to be where most of my time has gone.
20. How did you spend New Year's Eve?
In Sydney, watching fireworks and then wandering the city streets in high heels followed by bare feet and a pretty dress.
22. Did you fall in love?
It's funny you should ask that...
23. What concerts did you attend?
As usual, I did mostly festivals. I did see Time Gentlemen Please and the Ukelele Orchestra of Great Britain, and of course Barrowman. Blackbeard's Tea Party and Oysterband were the highlights of the festivals.
24. What were your greatest musical discoveries?
No real major discoveries this year. Session A9 and the Fishermen's Friends appeared in shiny wonder.
25. What were your favourite movies?
The new morris documentary, Way of the Morris, is really lovely.
26. What were the best books you read?
Also not had much time to read. I have read some really wonderful fanfiction this year.
remuslives23's take on Pretty Woman springs to mind, as does another that I can't remember what it was called or about, but I know it was awesome and wonderful.
27. What were your favourite TV programs?
Doctor Who, QI, Top Gear, Have I Got News for You. Not been as keen on Mock the Week this year.
28. Is there anything you would change about 2011?
There would be less of it, and I would make sure that I actually get a break when I get the chance. Reading week disappeared.
29. What kept you sane in 2011?
My wonderful MSN harem and Jack/Ianto.
30. Did anyone you know die this year?
No one close.
31. Did anyone you know get married this year?
I don't think so.
32. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 21 in August. My mum and I went for afternoon tea with two of my friends from secondary school, and then we went out for dinner as a family+Jen (brother's girlfriend).
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2011?
Comfortably casual.
34. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned:
I don't have as many spoons as I think I have.
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you crush on in 2011?
Sue Perkins mostly. She's just all the awesome.
36. What news story stirred you the most?
The Arab Spring and the Occupy movement, as well as the toppling of the MurdOCH media. It's like hope is finally kindled.
37. Who did you miss?
All the wonderful people I met in Australia who I had to leave behind. I'll be back!
38. Who are the new friends you made this year?
Lali is the most specialest of all of them. I'm so glad I met her.
39. What are your goals and plans for 2012?
Finish my degree with at least a 2:1, preferably a first. Get a first on my dissertation. Get a job or start a business. Have Lali move in with me. Start planning our trip to Australia. See the friends I haven't had time to this year. Throw a street party for the Jubilee.
40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
"We just want to dance here, someone stole the stage,
They call us irresponsible, write us off the page"
We Built This City by Starship.
