They're both so broken, but they hold each other together and help each other get through another night.
Everyone but Ianto seems to judge Jack for being able to make the kinds of decisions that they never could, as if that somehow makes him a bad person, when it really makes him selfless. The decisions he has to make for the greater good tear him apart inside, but he makes them so that no one else has to and so that no one has to suffer the consequences of those decisions NOT being made.
