Writings!

It's my baby brother's birthday today. He's 21, so not that much of a baby, really. I'm with him in Hull, and our parents are due to leave Halifax within the next hour to come and join us here for dinner and presents and stuff. He's had lectures all day, so I've ticked off the first of my 51 cities, and tomorrow they're all going out for the day and putting me on a bus at 9 so I can go back to work in York. Le sigh. Fortunately, I have five days to go until I have a full week off, because one of my colleagues offered to cover my Thursday shift when I whined about it. This means that I can work a full day on Tuesday, possibly with more booksales training after I spend the afternoon in the stocks, go bowling with everyone after work, stay out in town until half one and get a train over to Huddersfield. Then I just have to settle into McDonalds for a couple of hours before my family will pick me up so we can go and do morris on top of a hill at dawn. Fun times.

That wasn't what this post was supposed to be about, though. Rick is doing Camp NaNo, and we did a bit of writings yesterday. Every single word of it will be scrapped, but it's all for CaseStory, so I'm hoping that my artist will do art for those scenes instead of my slightly clumsy prose. My mind is being consumed by an angsty romance, though, and I just want the time to write it. The Jack/Ianto bug, never far away, is back with a vengeance. What do you want me to write? Throw ideas at me, and I'll have a go at writing short (1000-ish word) stories that don't turn into NaNo length mammoths, like my bingo fics inevitably do. One day I'll finish the fairy fic that turned into the steampunk fantasy romance...

Mostly, though, I am typing this because I am too cold to think. My brother has his house thermostated to 15 degrees, which is shivering temperatures for someone who works in a kitchen. We work at closer to 30 degrees. Bah. I want to go back to bed and be warm.
