So apparently Spotify's been making massive losses, which isn't really surprising considering that they give away music for free. I was really insanely lucky last year and won a 12 month pass for it, wihch got me unlimited access to all the music I could possibly want, 24/7. Of course, at that point I could still use the advertising-based service in the UK, but I went to Australia (where the free one doesn't work) and had lots of travelling without internet access, and it was brilliant.
Of course, I got used to having access to all the music ever (and you should have seen my irritation when something really obscure I wanted wasn't on it). And then, to get more people to pay for their service, they introduced a 10-hours-a-month, 5-plays-per-track-per-month cap on the free service and my full account expired. Rather than go back to not having access to All The Music, I'm paying £5 a month. Which, seriously? I need to find five new tracks to add to my playlist per month to make it cheaper than getting the same amount of music off itunes.
So I'm listening to new stuff, rather than going through my old playlists constantly. Right now it's the Blues Brothers soundtrack (Sweet Home Chicago at the moment), and I've been listening to Artist Radio for Oysterband and Blackbeard's Tea Party.
So if you have any recommendations of stuff you think I should listen to, I've probably got access to it. And if you can, give spotify a try because it's made of awesome.
