On Irene Adler

I am somewhat tired of people saying that the original Irene was so much more awesome than the modern one, and that the modern one is so misogynistic. Yes, she beat him. She beat him by recognising him and then fleeing the country before he could get to her. There you have the first 40 minutes of Scandal in Belgravia. What follows in the modern adaptation is about 40 minutes of Irene playing Sherlock like no one ever has before, playing John (not that hard) and Mycroft (very hard) at the same time, and generally being awesome - for a terrorist. THe last 10 minutes, mostly, is her compulsary downfall, because she is a terrorist and the world has moved on from the days when you could escape something like that by leaving the country. And then in the last minute, Sherlock goes and rescues her. Does this mean that she lost? Like bollocks it does - it shows that even when he's 'beaten' her, Sherlock still has to show off. She's got him wrapped around her little finger.
Or that's how I interpreted it anyway. I realise there are different interpretations. I just wish those interpretations weren't usually presented as the only possible interpretation and "rarg, you are a misogynist if you don't see this".
Irene Adler is a bamf, and she's off having adventures with Lady Christina de Souza and River Song.
