The door breezed open whilst he was packing the last of his things into his bag, and Theta bounced over to hug him from behind. "Ianto Jones, where have you been hiding yourself?" She brushed her hair back off her face with one hand and rested the other on her hip. "I've barely seen you the last couple of rotations - seems like you've got yourself settled in up there."
He shrugged and smiled shyly. "I've been pretty distracted, sorry."
Theta waved it off and tugged him over to sit down, where she could rest her feet in his lap. "Don't be silly," she said as she did so. "Tell me all about it. The rumour mill is failing me, I have to admit - I know about the head pilot, but who else is there? Is it all the upper ranks?"
"No, no... it's just him."
"He's not being posessive, is he?" She rolled her eyes. "Ianto, I know he's the head pilot and stuff, but you can't let him push you around. You do what you want, and he'll have to deal with it."
"I am doing what I want," he insisted. His face flushed and he dropped his gaze to her brightly striped socks. "We're both monogamous."
"Mono-what now?"
He sighed. "It means we commit to one person and stay with them. Like Nostrovites."
Theta boggled at him. "That is so weird. But he's nice and gets you into all the best restaurants, and the sex is good, right?"
"Um..." he wasn't sure to start with that. "Yes. Yes, he's nice."
"And the sex?"
He blushed again. "Shut up and help me pack."

He slid the last drawer closed in his treatment room and swept the counter above it clean. Everything was in order, tidied and locked away for him to return to after their break. The door behind him slid open and he answered without turning. "I'm just about ready, Hat. Is there anything else you need me to do before I get off?"
Someone chuckled, and Ianto tossed his cloth into the disposal unit as he turned, finding himself in Jack's arms as soon as he was facing the right way. "Only nearly?" Jack asked, "Need any help?"
"No, I'm done." He kissed Jack and pulled out of his arms, reaching for his hand instead. "I need to check with Hat..."
"Done it. She says to make sure you have a good holiday." Jack squeezed his hand and started tugging him out of the spa. "Come on."
The spa was on the level below the entry ports, and they passed harried staff and crew all the way to the lifts and to the exit. The crew and a few of the staff recognised Jack and saluted as they passed, and he grinned like a child every time. Ianto couldn't help himself, and they were laughing by the time they piled out of the corridor into the docking bay, where the captain was overseeing loading and maintenence.
Jack released Ianto's hand and pulled off a sharp salute. "Sir."
"So this is your young man?" The captain lowered his tab for long enough to study Ianto over the top of his glasses and nodded thoughtfully. "Jones, isn't it?"
"Yes, sir." He smiled awkwardly, twitching between saluting and offering hsi hand to shake. Eventually he settled for tucking his hands behind his back, and rolled his eyes at the captain's kind smile. He was young for a captain, with a shaved head, big ears and a tunic that looked to have seen better days. His ears gave Ianto confidence. "I'll look after him and return him safely, sir."
The captain laughed. "I'm sure you will, Ianto Jones."
They took their leave of him and the few other senior members of crew lingering in the bay, and Jack led him through into the main spaceport and to one of the many hotels. It was by far the nicest room he'd ever stayed in, including the hotel he'd splashed out on to celebrate his graduation. The bathroom was as large as the one shared between the eight of them in the bunk rooms and mostly taken up by a bath larger than the one in Jack's ensuite, which was surrounded by marble surfaces and gold handles. The bedroom itself had a comfortable old world elegance, with rich purple and red fabrics on the bed and the deep armchairs, set in pale golden wood.
He expected - and hoped - to be tumbled straight onto the bed to thoroughly enjoy their first night off. Jack, though, led him to the armchairs and picked up his tab, passing it over to Ianto. "There's our itinerary to get us to Genesis. There's a superquick shuttle going in two days; I pulled in a couple of favours, got us a room..." He shrugged and gestured at the tab. "It's all there. It'll take us three days to get to the border station and four days from there to Genesis. We'll be there before you know it."
Ianto smiled fondly. "You've got it all organised."
The teasing tone in his voice brought a pout to Jack's lips. "I can be organised, you know."
"No you can't."
Jack sighed. "Alright, I can't. I've got a friend on the desk and she wrangled it for me. But I knew what I wanted wrangling." He smiled sweetly and cocked his head. "But the thought counts, right?"
"Yeah, the thought counts." He leaned across and cupped Jack's face in his hands. They kissed slowly, until Ianto found himself straddling Jack's lap with his arms around Jack's neck. "I guess we'll need to get up early to get everything ready, and get all the things we'll need for our trip?"
Jack slid his arms around Ianto's waist and raised his eyebrows. "Well, we don't have to get up that early..."
He sighed and raised his eyes heavenwards. "But it would be a good idea to get an early night anyway, right?"
"Oh... oh!" Jack grinned at last and tipped Ianto backwards, supporting him with hands splayed across his back. "Good point."
