Hello there 2011, are you going to behave?
So, I start the year with a vague plan, and it never quite works out. This time last year, my plan was to change my degree to creative writing and redo my first year - and we all know how that turned out. (If you don't, I'm halfway through my second year of my Business Management degree because they offered me the exchange place to Australia).
This is the plan as it stands:
Writing
To do list
1. Finish 'Just A Mistake' and start rewriting.
This thing has been in the works for nearly two years now, and definitely will have been by the time I finish. My writing style has evolved, I've picked up and dropped ideas in it, the cat changed colour and I've missed out episodes that I wanted to rework into that canon. It needs a lot of work, but I think it's worth it.
2. Write the sequels to 'Just A Mistake'
One is a fluffy fun sequel which covers the time of Children of Earth within this universe. This being the universe where Ianto is basically doing Frobisher's job, so CoE doesn't go quite as it did in canon. In fact, they're on their honeymoon and probably don't even bother coming home.
The other is a not fluffy story, in which the opening of the Glasgow Rift rips Jack and Ianto apart when Ianto needs Jack most, and then lets them put themselves back together again... much, much later.
3. Write the two un-schmoopy Schmoop 'verse stories.
One of these involves the government conspiracy which fakes Steven's murder and then keeps him as a hostage to insure Torchwood's good behaviour. Because he's dead in some of my Schmoop 'verse stories and then I wanted to do a 'cousin love' story, so I brought him back, and it took me forever to work out how to do so.
The other is the one where Jack's ex comes back to kill Ianto slowly and painfully for stealing Jack from her. Needs a lot of work and will be mostly seperate from the 'verse, except in that it's part of it. Context and things will be minimal.
4. Write the history of Torchwood.
I'm going to do this on the plane tomorrow, or start it at least. It's going to be in the form of a guidebook to the Torchwood museum, which is based in a recreation of the first London base, and the chronology is going to go from the foundation through to the late 50th century. I'm rather excited about it.
5. Finish off my parts of the Transcendence 'verse.
There's about five episodes of Continuity Error - my series 4 - to write, and then I'm going to shut the door on that story because I'm struggling with it. Might be easier once I get rid of John Hart, but RPing with a sympathetic portrayal of him has actually made me dislike him even more than I did, so having him in the story is a problem. I'm not allowed to kill him, though, because my co-writer wants him back.
After that one, I'll probably move on to the end of the story, where Jack and Ianto realise that Ianto is strangely mortal, and die together in a Romeo and Juliet scene on the TARDIS. How womantic.
6. Finish my second NaNoWriMo
This one's about Jack's friendship with Yvonne Hartman and how it went from close friendship and trust to her blocking him at every turn. He meets and falls in love with Ianto along the way, but is grooming him to be the leader of Torchwood, knowing that every leader of Torchwood has turned against him, despite being close to him before.
7. Write the genderqueer romance set in the Discworld.
Involves two female characters masquerading as men (Monstrous Regiment - Polly and Maledicta for those who know it) back in another war together and falling in love, with their two identities confusing things, especially them.
1. Edit my NaNoWriMo into shape.
It's all in the wrong order at the moment. Well, it's in chronological order. That's the wrong order.
And then I want to convert it into a script. Because I'm a glutton for punishment.
2. Write the political intrigue romance.
Girl is the heir to a powerful galactic empire, which is at war with its neighbour. Girl meets girl and falls in love. Other girl is the daughter of the ruling family of the neighbouring empire. Girls think that this is perfect, because they will unite the empires and bring peace.
Parents think this is a bad idea because their families' wealth and power are based on the war, so girls go about a rebellion.
3. Write the first children's book.
I have an idea for a series set on my version of the Boeshane Peninsular, which is on the shores of a lake on a newly settled colony planet. The story follows the kids, who go exploring and have adventures - sort of Swallows and Amazons, except with aliens.
1. Lose weight.
I'm not overweight, but I weigh more than I did a couple of months ago. This needs to stop. I'd settle for getting rid of the take-away abuse weight, and maybe a bit of the 'stopping dancing' weight as well. To this end, I will join a fitness centre for the swimming pool and go a few times a week, and walk to university. I do this anyway, but the pool as well should help.
And take sandwiches, rather than going for muffins for lunch. Eat healthier, rather than less.
2. Get out more.
I hate being single, but I never get out and meet people! So I must try harder to meet people.
This said, I hate clubs and loud music, and York doesn't have gay scene so... Folk club and ignore the singleness? I need to do more ceilidhs.
3. Travel lots
I'll be happy with the UK this year. London, Cardiff, Edinburgh, the Dales... If you're in the UK and would like to meet up for a drink, ping me anywhere (cheeky...) and help me fulfil this resolution!
4. Don't kill self with exhaustion.
Again.
5. Laugh lots.
I don't really need to tell myself to do this one.
There may be more, but I think that's a good list.
And now, to bed.
