Mad Trip Day 13: Sydney

I have a weird timetable when I'm travelling. On days when I have to catch buses, I usually have to be up at 6, so I go to bed at about 10 (I don't often have internet, either, which helps with the early bed thing). On the days when I don't have a bus to catch, I manage to sleep in until 10. It's called catching up and stocking up.

It being a day when I didn't have to catch a bus, I slept in until about 10, then checked my email and got caught by my Mum and Dad on MSN. On escaping them I descended to the living room/kitchen/dining room (strange open-plan Australian homes), where Lefaym made me breakfast of awesome, with bacon that tasted right! (No, Melbourne NaNoites, this does not mean that I can stay in Australia now.)

After breakfast we flopped around on the sofa for a while, then headed out into town to the Rocks market. The Rocks is awesome, lots of kooky stalls of stuff ranging from glass figurines to pearl jewellery, handbags to locally made preserves. I didn't buy, but I did make notes. I almost bought a gift for Ruth, but they didn't have the style of thing that I was looking for, so I'll have to go and see if they have them on Paddy's Markets. If not, I know they have them at the QVM in Melbourne.

From the Rocks, we wandered down to Circular Quay and looked at the big cruise liner that was in and then went around the Quay to the Opera House in the rain with ice creams.

At an appropriate time we caught the bus out to Newtown and mooched down the street, looking in some cute little international-fashion-type shops, then went to the pub to meet Lefaym's friends. We couldn't find them for a while, which sort of led to me drinking Midouri and lemonade, but I think that was mostly because of the Midouri and lemonade. We found them eventually and ordered nachos, followed by the biggest chocolate brownies I have ever seen, and went home after an extremely pleasant evening.

Reading about the markets you went to makes me miss the QVM so very much :( Actually, I miss all of Melbourne's awesome shopping and night life.

Sounds like you're having a blast. Brisbane must seem like a sleepy country town compared to the likes of Sydney and Melbourne - I know it feels like it to me, and I live here.

I'm missing Melbourne too, and I was only there for four months. I guess it became home, which nowhere on this trip has quite managed because I've not been there long enough.

Wow! Sydney (whatever the weather) sounds awesome! I'd love to mooch around the markets, though I'm pretty sure I'd want to buy just about everything!

Also, Hi to the awesome Lefaym, whose fics I read with much enjoyment!

Meh! Can't spell names today - I blame the gloves I'm wearing! (Yes, it is THAT cold indoors!)
