Honest I'm alive

I have 7 days left, including today, until NaNoWriMo kicks off, and the idea of writing makes me feel tired and headachey. I am going to do it, though, just to prove that you can write even when you really, really don't want to.

No, I don't know why. Even blogging is making me feel tired, which is a massive change from what I used to be. Even now I'm here, I can't imagine not loving writing, so there's definitely something weird going on. I still have stories, they're just played out in RP, and it's not like I'm totally down because everything is awesome. It's just writing. Weird.

So I'm going to reread Just A Mistake and see if I can work out where I was going with it, then go there.

Writing is funny in how phase-y it can be. Maybe try switching from computer-type device to paper and see if that helps? Sometimes it's device burnout that is the cause for ennui.

Did you go places and have adventures?

[identity profile] fiwen1010.livejournal.com 2015-10-26 07:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I hand wrote my novel last year, and I'm just about getting over the cramp from it. It was a fun adventure, but ouch that hurt. I think it's more general burnout at the moment. I'm too busy and just keep getting busier. Lines like "Are we having a Secret Santa this year... I'll rephrase that, am I organising a Secret Santa this year?" have been uttered

And yes, I had lots of adventures. I couldn't believe I hadn't posted since before I went off to Asia. Definite update post requirements, because so much has happened. There's photos and everything.

How are you? It's been a really, really long time and I totally dropped out of the loop and failed at keeping in touch :(

[identity profile] beesandbrews.livejournal.com 2015-10-26 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. Last time you posted you were off for your forty day east Asian tour.

Me? Much the same. A few less cats. A few more fish. (Okay, a lot more fish). A modest iguana encounter in Aruba. Some stories written.

It's pretty quiet around livejournal these days, so having you return to the fold would be very welcome!

I really need to do a very big update. I have some awesome stories and news and all sorts. Like, I have a job these days, which is so weird.

I want to hear about the iguana in Aruba, that sounds epic. And I do have a lot of stories to catch up on

Here is the Aruba entries. It wasn't an EPIC trip. I went to an all inclusive resort for five days and mostly sat on a sun lounger, drank blender drinks and wrote fanfic. (Yeah, I know. But I'd started this New Team Torchwood/Sherlock story and I hate stopping when I'm in the middle of things.) The iguanas were everywhere, so I made friends with several of them.

Good luck! I think when you get out of the habit of writing it's hard to get back into it. There are days when I don't want to write, but I make myself anyway, even if it's just a few words.

I'm sure youi can do it.

I will post here a lot looking for a kick up the bum. It's hard to believe now just how prolific I was a few years ago.

It seems to go in cycles. I'm in my prolific phase now, but who knows how long it will last? Perhaps NaNo will kick-start another writing phase for you. I can only hope!

[identity profile] fiwen1010.livejournal.com 2015-10-27 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
My fingers are crossed. On the one hand, it would be nice to be prolific again. But on the other, I really don't have the time! Every day at work I seem to pick up new tasks.

There's never enough time to do the things that have to be done, never mind the things that you want to do. The time to write has to come from somewhere and that usually means NOT doing something else. As long as you enjoy the writing when you have the time to do it, that's what matters.

It's Contest Week on one of my favourite prompt sites, so for a week, all I do is write. Anything but the most important chores gets left. Next week will be spent catching up with everything I ignored this week. Good thing it's only one week every three months!

Hello stranger. :) Sometimes your creativity gets used up in other things. Don't worry, it hasn't disappeared, but it may not want to come out of hiding. Don't get too cross with yourself if Nano doesn't do what you hope.
But then again it might. Good luck.

Hello! How's tricks?

My creativity is involved in folding origami pumpkins at the moment. Don't ask, my life is weird. At least it's a lot of fun weird?

[identity profile] mcparrot.livejournal.com 2015-10-27 08:06 am (UTC)(link)
Mine is sewing not quite cut out even triangles together. I don't judge :)

I'm good. The original book is nearly a book (I think). I won a mentorship with the NZ Society of Authors this year. It's now draft umpty twelve, it's down to a respectable 90k words and it's back to my mentor to see what she thinks this time around. That's real progress I tell you.

Enjoy your pumpkings
(I'm just going to leave that typo there. It's kinda cute.)

That all sounds awesome. I've been keeping track as well as I can on Facebook, which admittedly isn't that well. 12 drafts is terrifying though
