House of the Dead reaction post

Blah.

Tropes I dislike:
* Jack is tortured by being reminded of the people he's lost/failed.
* Ianto is tortured by being reminded that Jack is immortal and everyone else is dead
* People come back from the dead and are evil.

In moderation I can take these tropes, but Torchwood has never done them in moderation. It has been one or all of them most of the time since the first episode.

This episode was all three, layered with more of all three, and then it killed Ianto again. And closed the Rift with an absurd hadwave that breaks canon - there's people on Flat Holm Island who haven't been taken yet, adn the girl from Asylum has also not fallen into the Rift yet, but it's closed so she can't and we have a Massive Paradox on our hands and the world will be eaten by those flying bat things.
