Mad Trip Day 9: Brisbane

Fantastic day! We woke up fairly early, but made the mistake of going online to check our emails, where we were accosted by Mum, Dad and Rick and spent a while chatting to all three of them at once. (I love you really; but Mum, 'I have to go' means 'I have to go').

So we eventually escaped them, and Angela drove us out to Alma Park Zoo. Lots and lots of photos from the zoo to show off, including a few of me with a very patient koala called Matilda – admittedly, koalas do tend to be patient, as they sleep for nineteen hours a day, but poor Matilda had to put up with a large group of school children. We also fed the kangaroos and wallabies, who weren't all that interested, and the deer, who were, and the sheep and llamas, who really, really were. We also got a mating display from a peacock and saw a lot of lizards, most of which were living wild in the zoo.

After lunch at the zoo we headed to a Westfield shopping centre, where Bras 'n' Things came up trumps with a rather nice halterneck swimsuit for $40 (no, there's no photos yet). I nearly got the play bunny tuxedo swimsuit, but that was rather more expensive and possibly a little OTT. And unflattering.

Angela also showed me a fantastic cupcake shop, where I was as indecisive as usual and bought eight. I'll use them for bus driver bribery.

From the Westfield we went back to the house for a quick email check and shower, and then Robyn, one of Mum's best friends, came to pick me up and take me to dinner. I'd met her and Rick, her husband, once about three years ago, but Mum managed to get me drunk and I don't remember all that much of it. I'd never met their daughter before either, but dinner was fantastic and lots of fun. They showed me around a typical Queensland home from the 1960s (theirs) and showed me poisonous spiders in the garden, and then took me up to a hill above Brisbane to show me the glittering spread before taking me home to Angela.
