Mad Trip Day 7: Rainbow Beach to Brisbane
Alarm went off at five, I got up at ten to six. Lovely lie in. Had a wander around Rainbow Beach, down to the beach itself and had breakfast of an apple, raisin and cinnamon turnover from the bakery. Even in Australia, the sea is cold. I took photos of some little geckos at one of the lookout points whilst I ate breakfast.
I headed back to the hostel and sat outside Fraser's for a while to use their internet, and Tracker told me that I might be on a different bus. Spoke to Lizzy and Ruth for a couple of seconds and then headed back to the hostel, where I grabbed my stuff and checked out. Hovered around the buses to find out which bus I should be on and got my laptop out to carry on checking my email and chatting until Tracker finally let me on his bus and we pulled away and took me away from the internet.
We went through a few towns to collect people, including the birthplace of Mary Poppins, and then on to the Glass House Mountains, which are purdyful. From there we went to Brisbane where I left the bus for a few days and met Angela, who is awesome and lovely, and her SO, who cooks fantastic kangaroo steaks. They led me through the city and showed me statues and gorgeous architecture, and told me that Australia had already won the cricket, which was a lie (yay!).
Angela and I chatted Torchwood for ages, which was super awesome, and compared notes on stories and writers we love. She also tried to introduce me to her resident possum and cockatoo, but they weren't around.
My opinion is that everyone should do this at some time in their lives. Getting out to meet people is so cool.
